Abe was a manager of a burlesk theater where I worked as a stripper in Buffalo, New York. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. He would take the girls out to eat. Some borrowed money from him. I never heard him speak very harshly about anyone.
He had these little mathematical quiz questions he got out of a book. He would be in his office trying to work them. I would come in to see him; and he would ask me what I thought the right answer was. I would always tell him the right answer. At different times, he asked me if I wanted to bet my paycheck - double or nothing - on the next quiz question. I really did want to do this because I was sure I could answer the next question; but I was afraid I might possibly lose; and I could not afford to lose a week's pay. And if I won, who knows - he might have been really mad about having to pay me double.
One time I was working at his theater on my birthday. After my show, he had someone walk out on the stage and give ma a birthday present. It was a litle portable mirror which wa smagnified on one side and regular on the other. The projectionist announce to the audience that it was my birthday. I thought that was nice of him to do; and I still appreciate his kind gesture today.
